What anxiety can look like
Anxiety doesn't always look like panic. For a lot of the people I work with, it looks more like:
- Replaying conversations and wondering what you should have said
- Overthinking decisions, big and small
- Feeling responsible for everyone else's feelings
- Perfectionism, procrastination, or never feeling done
- Lying awake because your brain won't shut off
- Tight shoulders, a racing heart, or a stomach that's always in knots
- Looking calm on the outside while feeling on edge inside
Many of my clients are high-functioning. From the outside, everything looks fine. You can be successful and still be struggling.
How we'll work on it
The goal isn't to get rid of every anxious thought. It's to change your relationship with anxiety so it stops running your life. Depending on what fits you, we might draw on:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to get unhooked from anxious thoughts and move toward what matters to you, even when anxiety shows up
- Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to understand the feelings and needs underneath the worry
- EMDR when anxiety is tied to past experiences that still feel unresolved
- Grounding skills for the moments when your body is on high alert
Why online therapy works well for anxiety
No commute and no waiting room. You can meet from your couch, your parked car, or anywhere that feels private. For many people with anxiety, removing those extra steps makes it easier to show up consistently, and consistency is where change happens.
What to expect
The first few sessions are about getting to know you: what anxiety looks like for you, when it started, and what you want to feel different. From there, we'll go at your pace. My style is warm, casual, and collaborative, and you don't need to have the right words.
Online therapy isn't an emergency service. If you're in crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
Anxiety therapy questions.
How do I know if my anxiety is "bad enough" for therapy?
You don't need to hit a certain threshold. If worry or overthinking is taking up more space in your life than you'd like, that's reason enough to reach out.
Can therapy help if I'm also taking medication for anxiety?
Yes. Therapy and medication often work well together. I don't prescribe medication, but with your permission, I'm happy to coordinate with your doctor or psychiatrist.
Do you work with panic attacks?
Yes. We'll work on understanding what's happening in your body during panic, build skills to help you ride it out, and look at what's driving it underneath.
How often will we meet?
Most people meet weekly. We'll talk about what works best for you.
